From your Moon photo to the wider solar system.
The Lunar Atlas and 3D Solar System Update brings automatic landmark placement to lunar photographs, puts NASA Moon Trek inside the lunar workspace, and gives NASA Eyes its own place in AIT.
Match a Moon image against the local atlas and place markers when the result is reliable.
Open NASA's lunar map and 3D globe from the dedicated lunar workspace.
Open the solar system in a separate AIT tool built for broader exploration.
A practical workflow for your Moon photos
AIT Lunar Atlas Pro now analyzes a loaded Moon photograph and compares visible surface detail with its bundled lunar atlas. The aim is to put recognizable features on the image itself, where you can use them, without requiring an alignment step for a successful match.
- Load a Moon photograph.
Lunar Atlas Pro detects the lunar disc and prepares the image for comparison.
- Let AIT check the match.
Visible features are compared with the atlas. AIT accepts the result only when the match is reliable.
- Explore the landmarks.
Craters, maria and mission locations appear on the photo. Adjust marker categories, visibility and density to suit your view.
AIT reports that it could not verify the match and does not place unverified landmarks. Manual alignment remains available for difficult images.
Two NASA experiences, each in the right workspace
The lunar and solar-system viewers have distinct entry points. You can stay focused on your Moon image in Lunar Atlas Pro, then choose the wider 3D scene when you want to explore beyond it.
NASA Moon Trek
Open NASA's interactive lunar map and 3D Moon globe from a dedicated button in the lunar workspace. AIT provides a viewer guide for the controls around the NASA page.
3D Solar System · NASA Eyes
Explore the Sun, planets, moons and other content available in NASA Eyes through its own AIT viewer. The broader solar system has a dedicated tool.
More in Lunar Atlas Pro
The workspace also includes phase-aware atlas previews, information about features and missions, a lunar report, social-card export and local lunar timelapse tools. These complement the photo overlay and give observers several ways to examine and share a lunar session.
Language and appearance follow your AIT settings
Lunar Atlas Pro and the AIT controls around both NASA viewers follow the language and Studio or Night theme selected in the AIT dashboard. The AIT viewer guides are available in English and Italian, and the viewer controls respond when those dashboard settings change while a viewer is open.
What to know before opening the NASA viewers
- Connection: Moon Trek and NASA Eyes are hosted by NASA and need internet access. Their 3D views also need working WebGL support.
- NASA content: The scene, labels, controls, language and availability inside each NASA page are supplied by NASA. AIT controls and translates its own viewer bars and guides around those pages.
- Browser option: Both AIT viewers can open the corresponding NASA page in your system browser if that works better on your computer.
Open AIT Lunar Atlas Pro, load a photograph and let automatic matching run. Use the lunar guide for the full workflow, or open the solar-system guide before exploring NASA Eyes.
