Astro Imaging Toolbox
Public product roadmap

Building a focused astrophotography software ecosystem.

The roadmap is now centered on the two products that exist today: Astro Imaging Toolbox and Seestar Companion. The goal is not to promise a giant future platform. The goal is to keep improving real tools, real workflows, support, documentation and product quality for astrophotographers.

What Exists Today

These are the active products that define the current AIT ecosystem.

Live product Astro Imaging Toolbox 2.4.0 Windows

Astro Imaging Toolbox

The main desktop suite for astrophotography workflows: planning, stacking, calibration, solar and lunar analysis, plate solving, gradients, star masks, mosaics, Seestar ingest, planetary tools, image/video conversion and export.

  • AIT Solar Insight for solar images, videos, archive comparison, timelapse and reports.
  • Core workflow tools grouped into one Windows environment.
  • Sold through Stripe with tiered licenses and demo flow.
Live product Seestar Companion 2.2.1 Windows + macOS

Seestar Companion

A focused companion built around Seestar workflows, but not limited to them. Universal FITS mode allows analysis of any valid FITS dataset, helping users decide what to keep, reject, stack and monitor while frames are still arriving.

  • Live Session Monitor and Field Night Mode.
  • Best Stack Recommendation, Imaging Coach and diagnostics.
  • Archive Progress, Local Benchmark and workflow export helpers.

Recently Shipped

This is the current foundation. The next work should build on it, not restart the story every few months.

DoneAstro Imaging Toolbox

AIT Solar Insight

AIT 2.4.0 added Lunar Atlas Pro and 3D Solar System exploration. AIT 2.3.0 added Stretch Studio and Doctor tools; AIT 2.2.0 added Solar Insight.

DoneWebsite

Ecosystem positioning

The website now presents Astro Imaging Toolbox and Seestar Companion as two products under one professional identity.

DoneUpdates

Dedicated updates center

Release notes are being separated from the blog so customers can quickly see the current product status.

DoneSeestar Companion

Live session intelligence

Seestar Companion 2.2.1 added live monitoring, local benchmarks, archive progress and stronger guidance.

Next Priorities

These are the most practical near-term improvements because they help existing customers and make the products easier to trust.

Near Term Product polish and customer confidence.
NextWebsite

Product pages and buying paths

  • Create a clearer dedicated Astro Imaging Toolbox product page, separate from the ecosystem homepage.
  • Keep Seestar Companion as a first-class product page, not a hidden subfolder.
  • Add a simple comparison: who should buy AIT, who should buy Seestar Companion, and who may want both.
NextSupport

Customer onboarding and support

  • Improve first-run guidance, activation instructions and license delivery wording.
  • Create clear support pages for purchase, activation, updates, refunds and common issues.
  • Move important release notes into the updates center and keep blog posts for guides and stories.
NextAIT

Astro Imaging Toolbox maturity pass

  • Continue making the suite feel consistent across dashboard, planning, stacking, masks, gradients and export.
  • Improve logs, error messages and support package generation.
  • Refine cross-tool workflows such as send-to actions and recent project/session continuity.
Mid Term Deeper product value, not more noise.
Planned directionSeestar Companion

More useful Seestar decisions

  • Improve the quality and clarity of live session recommendations.
  • Make Archive Progress and Local Benchmark more useful over time as users save more sessions.
  • Add more export helpers for common external stacking workflows.
Planned directionGuides

Real workflow documentation

  • Publish short, current guides for the actual 2.x product line.
  • Clean old blog/version language so new users do not see outdated product claims.
  • Add example workflows for Seestar users, Universal FITS datasets, DSLR/OSC deep sky, planetary and mosaic planning.
Planned directionBusiness

Professional product layer

  • Unify the tone of the AIT checkout and Seestar Companion purchase experience.
  • Make updates, support and licensing feel like one professional system.
  • Add stronger trust signals: current release status, screenshots, support expectations and creator story.
Longer Term Ideas to research carefully.
ExploratoryAIT

Deeper acquisition integrations

  • Better exports or sidecar metadata for tools such as NINA, Voyager and PixInsight.
  • More robust mosaic planning outputs for real acquisition workflows.
  • Possible ASCOM / INDI ideas only if they clearly improve the product without bloating it.
ExploratoryPlatform

Future product ideas

  • Any future online or cloud-adjacent work should be designed from scratch when the need is clear.
  • The current priority remains the two real products and the customer experience around them.
  • New tools should only be added if they strengthen the astrophotography workflow, not just expand the brand.
Roadmap principle: shipped work matters more than dramatic promises. Dates may shift, features may change, and exploratory ideas may never ship if they do not make the products better for real astrophotographers.

How Users Can Influence This

The most useful feedback is specific: a broken workflow, a confusing decision, a real dataset, or a recurring support problem.

Send real workflow problems

Describe what you were trying to do, where the software slowed you down, and what result you expected.

Share sample data when possible

Real frames, sessions and logs are far more useful than abstract feature requests.

Prioritize outcomes

The best roadmap items are not just features. They are clearer stack decisions, faster workflows and fewer dead ends.
